  • Year 5 and 6 - Wimbledon Book Fest

    Published 23/03/23, by Adam Gilbert

Year 5 and 6 were offered the wonderful opportunity to attend the Wimbledon BookFest to see the famous comedian Sir Lenny Herny, on Monday 27th February at the New Wimbledon Theatre. All children revieved a copy of ‘The Book of Legends’ and a copy of Lenny’s World Book Day book ‘The Boy with Wings’ funded by Wimbledon BookFest.

Years 5 and 6 were inspired by an afternoon of fun storytelling with a World Book Day author. Lenny read out excerpts from his laugh out loud, hugely thrilling, book all about mythical legends where everything changes! We were fortunate enough to be sat in the front few rows and Dylan from 5E was called up on stage to create a character with Lenny.

  • School Council - Houses of Parliament

We were so lucky to get the opportunity to have a tour of our Houses of Parliament and meet Siobhain McDonagh, our local MP.

We learnt so much about its history and the traditions it still follows.

We were able to go inside the House of Commons and the House of Lords and identify the many differences between the two rooms.

It was so interesting to find out how the votes are cast when Parliament puts through motions and laws and we even got chance to put through a motion of our own – a law against giving homework! Mrs Jones would not let it pass!

Here are some photos of our day:

  • Year 4 - Ufton Court

At the end of last term, Year 4 went on an incredible trip to Ufton Court, a Roman village in Reading.

We had a fun-filled day of activities immersing ourselves into being Romans for the day! While barking commands, marching, sieving through artefacts, the students were able to understand what it was like to be a legionary during the Roman times.

    • Roman Artefacts: this session we explored Roman artefacts and decided on the correct use. We bartered between oil bottles being a bedpan and a trophy and oil applicators being horseshoe cleaners or livestock feeders. The students were able to use their reasoning for siding with each use and basing their decisions through their knowledge of Roman Britain.
    • Roman Skills: Here, students were able to weave fences, make their own yarn and learn how to create fire. Students worked collaboratively in each task, working as a well-oiled Legion!
    • Roman Manoeuvres: Students learned how to work together to create a strong unified Legion. We learned how to effectively use a pilum and scutum, making Year 4 a force to be reckoned with! Learning many Roman battle manoeuvres, I’m sure no one would want to challenge us!
    • Roman Games: Students learned many games that Roman soldiers used to pass the time. Of course, Roman time football was an absolute success. Students used an adaptation of noughts and crosses alongside Roman Jacks to fully immerse themselves into the life of a Roman.

Having spoken to many students across the year group, the trip was a raging success, and we are incredibly thankful to Ufton Court for facilitating an amazing day for Aragon! Year 4 showed just how great they are and we are welcomed back next year!

    Published 22/03/23, by Adam Gilbert

Year 6 had a fantastic end to their History unit ‘Conflict and Resolution’ by visiting the National Army Museum in Chelsea. Throughout the day, the year group took part in a workshop about The Blitz and got involved with lots of interactive activities. They learnt so much about different armies from around the world and throughout history and the pupils were a real credit to the school with how well they behaved.
