Welcome to Year 6's Information Page

Here you will find all the essential information regarding your child's class and daily routines.

Learning

In Year 6, pupils are taught in Maths and English groups to best support their learning. We believe this approach also helps prepare them for secondary school, where they will transition between different classrooms and teachers. Additionally, this system provides new opportunities for pupils to form friendships.

In the summer term, the children will sit their formal SATs exams. These consist of three Maths papers (one arithmetic and two reasoning papers), a Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar paper, and a Reading Comprehension paper.

PE (Physical Education)

Below is your child's PE timetable:

Class Coach Day (Come in PE kit) Class Teacher Day (Bring kit to change)
6EB Wednesday Monday
6F Tuesday Monday
6MB Tuesday Thursday

To maximise PE time, children must come to school wearing their full PE kit on coach days and bring their PE kit for class teacher days. The PE kit consists of:

  • Aragon House Team PE t-shirt
  • Plain black or navy shorts or tracksuit bottoms
  • Trainers
  • Branded clothing and colourful leggings are not permitted.
  • For health and safety reasons, we recommend that no jewellery is worn, and long hair should be tied back on PE days.

Equipment

In Year 6, we aim to support pupils with their transition to Year 7 by encouraging them to take responsibility for their own equipment. We politely request that Year 6 pupils bring their own supplies (clearly named) and restock as needed. This helps develop their independence and responsibility.

Equipment List:

  • Clear pencil case (not branded or patterned)
  • 3 x HB pencils
  • Blue handwriting pen
  • Eraser
  • Pencil sharpener
  • 30cm clear ruler
  • Clear protractor
  • Glue stick
  • Whiteboard pen
  • 3 x different coloured highlighters (not pink or green)
  • Purple editing pen
  • Lever arch homework folder

Optional Equipment:

  • Dictionary – Oxford English Dictionary (not junior)
  • Thesaurus – Oxford Paperback Thesaurus (not junior)
  • Colouring pencils

Snacks

Children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack for break time (11:00–11:15am). Only water bottles with water are permitted in class.

Homework

Please find the Year 6 homework timetable attached. The timetable slightly varies between the Autumn and Spring terms. All homework is due the following day. If homework is not completed, pupils will be required to finish it during lunchtime in an assigned classroom.

Other Information

Year 6 pupils are expected to be excellent role models for the rest of Aragon Primary School. They have opportunities to apply for roles such as house captains, school council members, eco-warriors, and reading champions, among others. They wear red jumpers to signify their role model status, making them easily identifiable to younger pupils who may need assistance.

Year 6 also offers many exciting opportunities. Towards the end of the year, children are invited to attend a residential trip to PGL – a thoroughly enjoyable week promoting independence, teamwork, and essential life skills. To celebrate the end of their primary school journey, we also host an end-of-year production, where pupils showcase their fantastic talents in singing, dancing, acting, and set design.
