Y6 Maths Enrichment

Some of the Year 6 children had the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic trip to Sandown Park Racecourse last Friday. While they were excited to watch the horse racing, they particularly enjoyed taking part in a range of engaging maths activities. These activities helped them understand how mathematics is applied in real-world contexts, particularly within the sport of horse racing.
During the visit, the children learnt how the weighing system operates, converting between metric and imperial units of weight. They also measured the parade ring and tackled a problem-solving task related to safety regulations, calculating the maximum number of horses that could be allowed in the ring at one time.
It was a memorable and educational experience for everyone involved. Below is a picture of the children proudly wearing their jockey silks.
