Y4 Ufton Court
On Friday, 8th November 2024, our Year 4 children embarked on their much-anticipated annual trip to Ufton Court, where they experienced an immersive Roman Day. This exciting event offered the children a hands-on opportunity to deepen their understanding of Roman history while having a fantastic time.
Bringing History to Life
The Roman Day was packed with engaging activities designed to make history come alive. The children participated in three main workshops, each providing unique insights into life in Roman Britain:
- Military Manoeuvres: the children explored what it took to be a Roman soldier, training in formation and learning about the discipline required to serve in the Roman army. They worked together to perform drills, understanding the teamwork and coordination that helped the Romans achieve their military might.
- Crime and Punishment: This session introduced the children to the Roman legal system, highlighting its fairness—or lack thereof. They discovered the harsh realities of Roman justice, from elite trials to the corruption that often influenced outcomes.
- Daily Life Skills: the children had the chance to step into the shoes of Roman Britons, learning essential skills such as crafting, spinning wool, and building fires. These activities helped them appreciate the hard work and ingenuity required to sustain everyday life during this era.
A Memorable Experience
The trip to Ufton Court not only enhanced the children’s understanding of Roman history but also allowed them to engage with the subject in a dynamic and memorable way.
Thank you to Mr Ashby and Mr Hicks who organised and supported this enriching experience. It was a truly unforgettable day for our Year 4 students!
